About the Project
DokuLab is an independent school of documentary photography founded in 2023 by photographer and educator Andrey Slovolitov. The project is aimed at a Russian-speaking audience and serves as a space for thoughtful exploration of photography, collective reflection, and the development of personal documentary projects.
DokuLab offers both offline and online courses where participants learn to see with intention, articulate their ideas, refine their visual thinking, and bring their projects to completion — whether in the form of photobooks, zines, or exhibitions. We study contemporary documentary photography, work on developing a personal visual language, and learn not just how to photograph, but why we do it.
Events
In December 2024, the group exhibition Displacements, curated by me, brought together the course participants and gave them the opportunity to present their projects to a wider audience.
This exhibition became an important point of convergence — both visual and conceptual — for the authors as they completed their stories within DocuLab.
